The League1 Canada season is winding down with very few matches left. With the last match in Ontario having taken place, only Quebec is left for the final few weeks.

As we have throughout the season, Northern Tribune gets you caught up on everything that happened across the country. This is the latest roundup. You can read last week’s recap here.

League1 Ontario: North Toronto Holds Onto Premier Division Spot

The last game in League1 Ontario for the season was quite the significant one. One place in the Premier Division – and one in the Championship – were up for grabs between North Toronto Nitros and The Borough.

Held at Downsview Park, the pair met in a one-off, winner-take-all playoff for promotion on Friday. North Toronto finished 10th in the Premier Division this year, so they were trying to keep their status in the league. As for The Borough, they ended up in third in their maiden Championship Division appearance.

It would be the visitors who went ahead just past the hour mark through Alex Kuszaj. Unfortunately for them, the lead lasted just 15 minutes. Substitute Sufyan Fraj netted his opportunity from a corner to tie things up.

Extra time was required as the score ended up being 1-1 after normal time. With six minutes to go, North Toronto found their winner. Lucas Dyck headed a free kick to Cyrus Rollocks, whose header beat Marcos Gagliano to give his side the lead.

Rollocks took off his shirt in celebration. This was despite him already being on a yellow card. Once the players walked back to the center circle, the referee came over and gave the North Toronto number nine a second yellow, sending him off.

That proved to be a footnote at best, as North Toronto held on for the 2-1 win in extra time to remain in the Premier Division. The Borough will return to the Championship Division for 2026.

Ligue1 Quebec: Blainville Pulls Off Penalty Shootout Upset

The Coupe Ligue1 Quebec is now in play. The knockout competition involves the top eight sides from the regular season. All four quarterfinals occurred on Sunday.

Things kicked off in Beauport, as Royal Select Beauport and AS Blainville met. Both sides managed to take the lead in normal time, but neither could get the advantage. Penalties were required, where the visitors did enough to progress.

As for regular season winners CS St-Laurent, they got past CS St-Hubert 2-0 in a rematch from the previous week. A pair of second half goals were enough for the side who won the Coupe last term to advance.

FC Laval, meanwhile, prevailed 4-2 versus CS Mont-Royal Outremont in a high-scoring affair. The hosts conceded twice within the space of two minutes to go 2-1 down, but then scored three unanswered – including an Ali Messoudi brace – to recover and move on. As for AS Laval, they managed a 120th minute winner from Mohamed Kourouma to edge Celtix du Haut-Richelieu 1-0.

The semifinals, both of which will occur on Saturday, 13 September, will see St-Laurent face FC Laval, while AS Laval will welcome Blainville.

Ligue2 Quebec Masculin: LaSalle Clinches Title

The only league left with a full slate of action is Ligue2 Quebec, and that is also coming to a quick end. There were two Wednesday games, both of importance. CS Trident earned a 4-1 success over CS Trois-Rivieres, while CF L’International de Quebec topped Phenix des Rivieres 3-1.

Saturday had 11 games, with CS Levis-Est and St-Jerome commencing the afternoon with a 1-1 draw. AS Gatineau followed that up by beating CS Roussillon 3-0 for their 11th win in a row. Trident made it two victories for the week in a 9-0 defeat of AS Brossard. Bastien Aussems scored five times in the rout.

Mistral de Sherbrooke claimed an even bigger win, hammering Trois-Rivieres 13-0. Nine of the goals came in the second half. AS St-Leonard edged Phenix des Rivieres 3-2 to add insult to injury on the latter’s week. Fortunately for them, International de Quebec lost 1-0 at home to CS Montreal-Centre.

Union Lanaudiere Sud topped CS Boucherville 3-0, while CSRDP provided the shock of the week, stunning Lakeshore SC 5-0 at home. David Martins Jorge pulled off a hattrick in one of the most unexpected results of the season. As for Revolution FC, they inched closer to the promotion playoffs by beating CS Braves Ahuntsic by the same score.

Panellinios St-Michel got past AS Montis 3-2 despite the hosts nearly pulling off a comeback. AS Chaudiere-Ouest defeated Boreal FC 3-1 to close the day’s play. CS LaSalle, who was confirmed champions thanks to Lakeshore’s loss, drew 1-1 versus CS St-Lazare Hudson on Sunday.

LaSalle wrapped up the title, which was inevitable. AS Gatineau and Montreal-Centre joined Lakeshore in the playoffs, with Revolution a point away from doing the same. Meanwhile, it is now between International de Quebec and Phenix to determine the last team remaining in the division.

There will be 10 games next Saturday due to the postponement of one fixture. Revolution will face Chaudiere-Ouest at home in the match of the week. A point for the hosts will see them clinch the final playoff berth. International de Quebec is at the already-relegated Boucherville, hoping to avoid joining them. For Phenix, they face the in-form AS Gatineau, knowing a defeat will likely send them to Ligue3 Quebec for next year.

Ligue2 Quebec Feminin: St-Laurent Seals Promotion

The last match in League1 Canada women’s football for the 2025 season occurred on Monday between AS Brossard and St-Laurent. It was a battle between the third and fifth place finishers from the regular season.

St-Laurent, who topped Trident a couple weeks prior, scored the game’s only goal in the 18th minute through Danica Banham. Despite Brossard’s attempts, they could not find a leveller, ultimately falling 1-0.

The result sees St-Laurent claim the 12th and final place in Ligue1 Quebec for next season. Brossard will return to Ligue2 Quebec for the 2026 campaign.

Ligue3 Quebec: AS Laval, Titans Grab Wins

There were just a couple of Ligue3 Quebec games this week as the regular season is virtually at its close. On Wednesday, AS Laval B picked up a 5-1 success at Notre-Dame-de-Grace SA.

The other game occurred on Sunday, where CS Titans edged NDGSA 1-0 thanks to a Matis Boulanger goal nine minutes after the interval. There was another match that was supposed to take place that day, but Longueuil B was awarded a 3-0 forfeit win over FC Anjou.

Nothing of note changed in the standings. The same top four remains. There is one more regular season contest, which will see Longueuil B host AS Laval B next Saturday. The playoff semifinals will occur the week after.
