League1 Canada Women’s Review: Week 6
By It was a week full of action across the country as the League1 Canada season really starts to take shape. Goals were quite the theme from coast to coast as well.

League1 BC: Altitude, Unity Continue to Dominate
All of League1 BC’s action for the week took place on Saturday. Altitude started the day off with a narrow 2-1 victory at Vancouver Rise Academy. Bailey Doerksen and Jayda Thompson grabbed the goals for the away team in their six win of the year. Nanaimo United came from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw at TSS Rovers. A Victoria Cronkhite penalty 13 minutes from time grabbed them a point.
Kamloops United finally got their first result of the season as they staved off a late Burnaby comeback to beat them 3-2. As for Unity, they powered their way to a 4-1 success over Evolution FC. A four-goal first half did the trick for the undefeated hosts.
Amazingly, Altitude and Unity still maintain 100% records after 5-6 rounds of play. They are the cream of the crop out west, and are looking set to be the ones fighting for the title. The Rise Academy sits third, having played the most so far.
There will be one midweek game, as Burnaby hosts the Rise Academy on Wednesday night. The weekend will continue with its full slate of games. Saturday sees Nanaimo welcome Unity and Evolution take on Burnaby. Sunday’s doubleheader pits together TSS Rovers and Kamloops, before Langley United battles Altitude to close the round.
League1 Alberta: Foothills, Impact, Callies Earn Second Wins
Only six of the eight League1 Alberta teams took to the field on Friday night as all three games for the week occurred then. At the Edmonton Soccer Dome, the Calgary Foothills scored their way to a 3-0 success at Edmonton Scottish. Reese Kincaid and Jayden Berg (twice) found the back of the net for the guests in an excellent victory.
Two goals from Ally Tannas in four minutes allowed Callies United to get past Calgary Rangers 2-1. Both of her markers came at around the hour mark. As for St. Albert Impact, they topped Calgary Villains 3-1 in their match.
The Calgary Blizzard, who did not see any action last week, remains out in front with seven points. All three of the week’s winners are now a point back.
It will be another three matches next week, again on Friday. The Foothills meets BTB Academy, while Edmonton Scottish has Calgary Villains. The other game sees the Blizzard take on Calgary Rangers.
League1 Ontario: Home Sides Key in Cup Success
Three of the four home teams who were involved in L1 Cup play ended up victorious. Tuesday’s lone match saw Simcoe County Rovers edge Pickering 1-0 to advance to the quarterfinals. They were joined by Vaughan Azzurri and Whitby FC on Wednesday. The former prevailed 2-0 over Tecusmseh, while the latter needed penalties to beat Woodbridge Strikers after a 1-1 draw (5-4 in the shootout).
As for Thursday’s game, Alliance United beat Guelph United 1-0 thanks to a Racquel Alexander goal just before the break. The remaining round of 16 games will occur next Wednesday. North Toronto Nitros faces Waterloo United, FC London meets Rush Canada, and North Mississauga hosts St. Catharines Roma Wolves.
League1 Ontario Premier: NDC Ontario Jumps Ahead
There were four matches in the Premier Division this past week. Friday night had the game of the week, where NDC Ontario took down North Toronto 2-0. Kayla Gaynor and Olivia Chrisholm got the goals in the first half to seal all three points for the defending champions.
On Saturday, Vaughan Azzurri topped FC London 2-0 on the road, while Waterloo United prevailed by the same scoreline over North Mississauga. Sunday’s lone match saw Woodbridge Strikers pull off a six-minute second half comeback to stun Alliance United 3-2.
The top four clubs are still separated by just three points so far, with NDC leading the way on goal difference. Vaughan also sits on 12 points, with North Toronto two points behind. Simcoe County Rovers, who did not play, is a point further below.
There are six clashes the following week. Tuesday sees the Rovers in action as they play Guelph United away. Saturday’s games see Alliance host NDC, Simcoe welcome North Toronto in a huge tie, and FC London take on Waterloo.
League1 Ontario Championship: Pickering Goes Top
The League1 Ontario Championship Division had a full round of action last week. It started on Friday, where Pickering FC pulled out a 3-1 win over the visiting Burlington SC. Just a minute after conceding, Jacqueline Brown got the winner in the 87th minute for the home side as they grabbed one more later on.
On Saturday, Rush Canada scored late on to take a 1-1 draw at home to Whitby. Sunday had a pair of 2-1 wins, as Hamilton United Elite got their first win of the season at the expense of Oakville SC. Scrosoppi was the other victorious team as they downed Unionville Milliken.
The league is evenly split so far, as the top four teams all have multiple wins to their name. Pickering and Tecumseh are the top two, while Whitby dropped to third despite remaining undefeated.
Next week has a pair of games on Friday, and then a pair more on Sunday. Tecumseh has Scrosoppi, while Whitby meets Pickering in the fixture of the week. Burlington takes on Oakville on Sunday, with Unionville Milliken welcoming Rush Canada.
League2 Ontario: Railway Grabs Another Victory
Ten matches were on the slate in League2 Ontario this past week. That included seven in the Northeast Conference. Tuesday had the opening match, where Alliance B edged North Mississauga B 2-1. Wednesday’s pair of games ended in a Simcoe B 3-0 success at Pickering B, and Scrosoppi B handing a 5-1 beating on Unionville B.
The lone tie on Thursday saw Woodbridge B top Whitby B 2-0. That led to the weekend, where Master’s FA fell 2-0 at home to Vaughan B on Saturday. A goal in each half did the trick for the away side there. North Toronto B handed an 8-0 defeat on Sudbury Cyclones on Sunday, before Whitby B beat Simcoe B 2-1 on Monday to close the round.
The Southwest Conference had the remaining three matches. Waterloo B claimed Thursday’s contest with a 4-1 success at Burlington B. There was another away win on Friday courtesy of Hamilton United B’s 3-0 victory over Oakville B. Railway City ended the week with a 2-0 win at home to Guelph B. Heidi Miles and Ashley Betancourt bagged the goals for the home side.
Waterloo B and Cambridge United are the top two in the Southwest, while Woodbridge B and Scrosoppi B lead the Northeast Conference so far.
Among the games next week, Rush Academy B hosts Railway City, while Cambridge meets Guelph B. Master’s is at Pickering, with Sudbury taking on Vaughan B.
Ligue1 Quebec: Double Gameweek Provides Much Action
It was a double gameweek in Ligue2 Quebec, meaning there were quite a bit of matches in La Belle Provence this past week. Here is what went down across the two divisions in Quebec.
Ligue1 Quebec: CSMRO Wins Big
There were half a dozen matches in Quebec’s top division this past week. It kicked off on Wednesday as AS Blainville took down AS Laval 2-1 at home. The action continued into the weekend, where FC Laval earned a 2-0 result at Celtix du Haut-Richelieu. A goal in either half did the trick for them.
Blainville recorded a second victory of the week, this time a 1-0 road win at AS Chaudiere-Ouest. Poppy Honeybone scored both of CS Longueuil’s goals in their 2-1 success over Ottawa South United. As for CS Mont-Royal Outremont, they hammered CS St-Hubert 7-0 at home. Six players found the back of the net for the home side in their rout. Royal Select Beauport concluded the round as they prevailed 3-2 at AS Laval.
CSMRO and Acaedmie CF Montreal continue to lead their respective groups, while Longueuil and Beauport are the other playoff teams at the moment. It is tight in Group A though, as Blainville and FC Laval are also in the running.
Next week will see Blainville meet Academie CFM in what could be an interesting game. Celtix hosts CSMRO in the other Friday clash. Beauport meet FC Laval in a huge match for both sides. Ottawa welcomes AS Laval and Chaudiere-Ouest meets Longueuil to close out Saturday’s action.
Ligue2 Quebec: Lakeshore Finally Held
A whopping 16 matches occurred in Ligue2 Quebec this past week as there was action on Saturday and Monday in a double matchweek.
Saturday’s play began with a goalless draw between Revolution and CS Du Bas-Richelieu. AS Gatineau then followed it up with a 2-1 win over CS Trois-Rivieres. Levis-Est continued their strong start with a 2-0 victory at Fury de Rimouski’s expense. FC Anjou finally came out on top, beating fellow strugglers CS Lanaudiere-Nord 2-1. Union Lanaudiere-Sud and CS Boucherville could not find a goal in their clash.
Lakeshore SC won their top of the table clash with CS Trident 2-1, with Taida An scoring the winner just past the hour mark. Mistral de Sherbrooke completed the day with a 5-1 defeat of CF L’International de Quebec.
Monday commenced with CS St-Laurent pulling off a 4-0 away win at AS Gatineau, before Union Lanaudiere-Sud followed it up with a 6-1 result over Phenix des Rivieres. Boucherville edged CS Roussillon 1-0 in their match, while AS Brossard grabbed a 2-0 victory at Mistrale de Sherbrooke.
Trident bounced back from Saturday’s loss with a 1-0 win against CS du Bas-Richelieu. Roxanne Simard got the only goal of the game four minutes in. Meanwhile, LaSalle became the first team to take points from Lakeshore in a 2-2 draw. The latter roared back from two goals down to snatch a point.
Levis-Est prevailed 4-0 over Anjou, Revolution won by the same result versus CS Lanaudiere-Nord, and Trois-Rivieres claimed a 6-0 win against L’International de Quebec. Fury de Rimouski was the only side not in action on Victoria Day.
Lakeshore still leads the league as the sides have played 5-7 matches so far. Revolution, Brossard, Trident, and Mistral de Sherbrooke remain on their heels though.
All nine of next week’s fixtures occur on Sunday. Trident’s clash with Levis-Est is one to watch, while Lakeshore will look to return to winning ways on the road against Trois-Rivieres.
