Luxembourg Looms For Former Cavalry Defender Udoka Chima

Former Cavalry defender Udoka Chima has now jumped to Luxembourg after a very brief spell in England with National League South Side Worthing FC.

The 21-year-old centre-back had made thirteen appearances for Cavalry in the opening half of last year’s CPL season, but found himself locked outside of the Cavalry team-sheet from July onwards.

The six-foot-three defender had mutually terminated his contract with Cavalry following the club’s regular season championship win, and has now signed on with relegation battlers CS Fola Esch in Luxembourg’s top flight.

It had looked like the Burnley FC Academy product was set to stay in his native England, though his time at Worthing FC was evidently a short stop rather than a complete return home.

His move to Fola Esch comes through a partnership with Stratford-based Onside Academy, who are associated with Onside Sports Group. That academy has worked with Chima and has also been affiliated with other CPL athletes like Forge’s Malik Owolabi-Bolewu, and a trio now-departed Vancouver FC players in Nicky Gyimah, Emmanuel Robe, and Ibrahim Bakare.

Cavalry had touted an extensive scouting process when it had signed the young centre-back, though he didn’t reach the lofty expectations placed upon him before moving on.

Udoka’s new club is currently bottom of the sixteen-team league with the second-worst defensive record, so it’ll be interesting to see if the 2015 league champions can fight their way up the rankings to remain a top flight club in Luxembourg.
