Mikael Cantave Makes Makedonikos Move
Just over one month after Haiti international Mikael Cantave parted ways with Vancouver FC, the 28-year-old forward has resurfaced in the Greek second tier with Makedonikos FC.
He isn’t the only Canadian Premier League athlete to land in the club over the last seven days, with former Atletico Ottawa loanee Daniel Morer also signing donning the club’s green kit this week.
Cantave had joined Vancouver FC midway through the club’s inaugural season in 2023, arriving by way yof Cavalry in a player-swap move in exchange for Mael Henry. The forward had made five goal contributions for Cavalry, and enjoyed a strong start with the Eagles by way upping that goal contribution rate through to six goal contributions in sixteen appearances.
After that, it wasn’t shocking to see Vancouver FC sign him to a multi-year deal, though his sophomore season out west saw Cantave’s production rate drop to four contributions in 26 appearances.

The third season certainly wasn’t the charm when 2025 hit: while it’s unknown what went down behind the scenes, Cantave remained under contract despite he and the club reportedly going their separate ways. He did not show up for preseason as the season approached, and was never listed on any squad rosters for the entirety of the campaign before his departure was formally announced on July 23.
The last Makedonikos campaign saw the Greek club finish fourth, qualifying for a promotion play-off round that was ultimately airballed – though a retooling involving the Haiti international shows ambition for the second tier side. Cantave now has 21 caps for Haiti under his belt, appearing against Curacao and the USA this year despite not even being included in Vancouver’s squad at the time.
For Cantave – who has now played for thirteen clubs over the last ten years – the new chapter might beckon some stability for his career, particularly after a rocky exit from Vancouver.
“I’m excited and happy to be here,” said Cantave of the move. “I thank the President for the trust and the opportunity given to me to join the club. I want to help my teammates achieve their goals for the season.”
His former side Vancouver FC is dead last in Canada’s top flight, with interim head coach Martin Nash attempting to help the Eagles take flight once more as the search for a permanent successor to Afshin Ghotbi continues without a clear timeline.
