Cantave Turning Heads In Greek Amidst Makedonikos Struggles
Former Canadian Premier League midfielder Mikael Cantave is turning heads following his move to Greek side Makedonikos this season.
The 29-year-old has tallied up seven goals and three assists in 23 appearances, quickly establishing himself as a pivotal figure for the green-and-white. While several players from Canada’s top flight have tested themselves with the club, Cantave is proving to have an extra spark.
According to Greek outlet Metrosport, the veteran midfielder is now getting a close look from clubs in the Greek’s first and second tiers and is expected to be a top target for clubs in the summer transfer window.
Cantave’s side also have former Atletico Ottawa loanee Daniel Morer on the books, with former CPL champion Noah Verhoeven – who was already well-travelled within CPL circles – completing the trio of league alumni. Unfortunately, the group hasn’t been able to shift results for the league strugglers, which makes Cantave’s positive output perhaps even more impressive.

Cantave, who enjoyed a resurgence with the Haiti national team during his time with Cavalry FC in 2024, will certainly be hoping his individual form in Greece might lead him to a World Cup roster spot. He last joined the squad for the 2025 Gold Cup, being limited to a few minutes against the USA, and didn’t feature in the fall or the March friendly window.
With 21 international caps in all and having found firm footing with Makedonikos, however, the Haiti national team might be swayed to look at him once more, particularly if he builds towards a move up to the country’s top flight.
The Canadiain-Haiti winger’s former side Vancouver FC could use a few goals of their own at the moment, having gone without any through the club’s first three games. Goals had never been an issue for Cantave in Canada’s top flight, having tallied for five for Cavalry and ten for Vancouver before his departure.
