Rumour: Manisa FK Looses Former Ottawa Standout Ballou Tabla
A new report from Turkish website NTVspor states that former Atletico Ottawa attacker Ballou Tabla has left Turkish side Manisa FK.
The former Barcelona prospect had reignited his career following a successful spell in the Canadian Premier League, arriving to Manisa FK midway through their campaign on a two-and-a-half year deal.
The 24-year-old slotted into the lineup well following his arrival, tallying three goals and two assists in fourteen appearances. His second season saw his minutes dip drastically, however, though he still managed one goal in seven league appearances which all came off the bench.
His rumoured return to free agency – which would imply a mutual termination of his contract – will certainly turn heads in the Canadian Premier League, where he stormed onto the scene with Altetico Ottawa to help them finish as regular season champions en route to their first CPL Final appearance back in 2022.
Tabla garnered seven goals and five assists along that run, though interest from abroad meant he wouldn’t fulfill the length of the three-year deal he’d signed with the CPL side.
The fast-footed attacker had once been considered to be a player with a similar potential to Alphonso Davies, with Barcelona purchasing the then-teenager back in 2018. Their valuation saw him net a €25 million buyout clause, though he never broke through the reserves and eventually landed back with CF Montreal, where the Ivory Coast-born player had started his professional career.
The forward – capped twice by the Canadian national team – had nothing but positives to say about his time with Atletico Ottawa when he departed, making them obvious frontrunners to sign him – though at this stage in the offseason, much of the roster cap space will have been assigned to players as-yet-unannounced.
Of course, it’s worth stating that Manisa FK hasn’t yet confirmed his departure.
