Martime Super Series Returns for 2024 Women’s Tournament

In a sudden but welcome drop of Canadian footy news this long weekend, the Maritime Super Series 2024 tournament has been officially revealed by league organizers with teams, dates, and some limited details being made public.

Posted on Friday afternoon, the official X (formerly Twitter) account for the MSS posted that the competition would return for its second iteration after a successful go in 2023. Last year saw Bedford, Nova Scotia’s Suburban FC claim the men’s and women’s titles in dominating fashion, going undefeated in both divisions.

It was revealed that 2024 will see only the women’s competition return to the pitch with no explanation given as to the absence of a men’s division. That being said, much like 2023, three teams have been selected to represent their provinces at this year’s tournament.

From New Brunswick, the Fredericton Picaroons Reds will be making their return to the Super Series. Last year, their women’s squad struggled to find momentum going 1W-1D-4L with 17 goals against.

The PEI challengers from 2023, the Winsloe Charlottetown Royals FC, return for the 2024 edition. Finalists from last year’s bout, the women’s faired better than their male counterparts and did have 1W-3D-2L record, however the lost in painful fashion with a Suburban FC hat-trick sealing their fate.

2024 does introduce a new side to the mix as United Dartmouth FC claimed the 2023 Nova Scotia Soccer League Women’s AAA division title over the reigning Suburban FC. UDFC was formed in 2018 when the four soccer clubs of Harbour East Region – Cole Harbour SC, Eastern Passage SC, Dartmouth United SC, and Dartmouth FC – consolidated. The club is highlighted with talent such as the 2023 NS Player of the Year Abigail Aucoin (#8, Acadia University), who netted 16 goals across 12 games to claim the NSSL Golden Boot in 2023.

The 2024 Maritime Super Series will take place over three weekends this summer with the three participating city’s hosting. Dartmouth will host first from May 24-26, the series will then return to Fredricton on June 7-9, rounding out the series in Charlottetown, PEI as the W-C Royals host the final set of matches on July 19-21.
