Nick Dasovic Joins Vancouver FC Coaching Staff
Canadian Premier League side Vancouver FC has confirmed that Nick Dasovic will join the club as Martin Nash’s assistant for the upcoming season.
The 57-year-old Vancouver native is a former Canada international with an extensive coaching resume, most recently assisting Danny Dichio over at Detroit City FC in 2024 and 2025. He stepped down from the USL Championship for personal reasons last August.
Dasovic has assisted through the reserve and youth ranks of Vancouver Whitecaps FC, along with Canada at the U-20 and U-23 levels. He also stepped in as Toronto FC’s head coach on an interim basis in 2010, later assisting Mark Watson with the San Jose Earthquakes for a little over a year.
Dasovic was inducted into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame in 2011.The midfielder had earned some 63 caps for the national team, featuring for the likes of the Vancouver Whitecaps, St. Johnstone FC, Montreal Impact, and North York Rockets – amongst several others – over the course of a sixteen-year playing career.

He also had the honour of being named the inaugural Whitecaps FC 2 head coach of the MLS Next Pro era after coming close to the Atletico Ottawa head coach position that eventually went to Carlos Gonzalez.
“It’s exciting to have Nick joining our staff,” says head coach Martin Nash, whose time playing for the Whitecaps intersected with Dasovic’s. “He has a proven track record of helping players improve and succeed, and I know his guidance will be key as we work to shape a team that’s prepared to compete at the highest level.”
Nash and his coaching staff are moving quickly to retool the club’s playing roster ahead of a team-first Concacaf Champions Cup appearance against Cruz Azul next month. CPL veterans like Tom Field and Morey Doner – the latter of whom spent time with Dasovic in Detroit – have joined the fold alongside fresh faces like Burundi International Mohamed Amissi and New Zealand midfielder Luis Toomey.
Nash was only confirmed to have been given a contract extension by the club this week, though we’ve reported for over a month that the gaffer was given such. This will mark the former Nine Stripes boss’s first full season with Vancouver FC, having taken over from Afshin Ghotbi midseason.
