Devin Down Under: O’Hea Signs For Northcote City

Following Canadian forward Devin O’Hea’s spell testing himself at the professional level with Pacific FC, the striker is now set for an opportunity to play in Australia.

The 24-year-old will join semi-professional NPL2 side Northcote City, a club based in Melbourne, Victoria. Typically a solid top half club, last season saw Northcote – who don a Greece-inspired blue and white – finish fourth in league standings.

O’Hea made seven appearances for Pacific as the club experimented in a search for goals last year, seeing 346 minutes of action on the pitch and riding the bench in their playoff loss to York United.

The striker had been a standout with League1 BC side TSS Rovers beforehand, notching four goals in league play and adding an assist in the Rovers’ near-cupset over Pacific.

O’Hea had also embarked on a brief stint stateside with USL2 side Flint City Bucks, making two appearances before his midseason move to Pacific.

The forward had also been a standout at Simon Fraser University, being named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year last year following a season that saw O’Hea contribute nine goals and nine assists in just 18 games.

January has been a busy month for Canada-to-Australia moves taking shape, with former draft pick Owen Sheppard also heading to Victoria with semi-pro side Corio SC.

At the professional level, star Cavalry defender Daan Klomp, who declined extending his CPL stay in favour of a move abroad, is close to signing with A-League title contenders Adelaide United.

O’Hea’s former League1 BC will be back in the Canadian Championship again after finishing as the 2024 League1 BC regular season champions (and doing the double by clinching the playoff championship, too).

The semi-pro side has helped produce several players who went on to land in professional heights, like Anthony White, Jordan Haynes, and Joel Waterman, the first two of whom are currently free agents.
