AFC Toronto Looks To Continue Unbeaten Streak In Match Against Montreal Roses
Week 6 of the Northern Super League has kicked off with some mid-week action between the Vancouver Rise and Halifax Tides, with the former’s returning home to win 2-1 against the Tides in front of their fans.
The mid-week action now continues with AFC Toronto heading to take on the current top of the table holders Montreal Roses for the second time this inaugural campaign.
The first meeting between these two sides was back in April 19, with the inaugural game for both sides playing out in front of sellout crowd of 14,500 lower bowl tickets at BMO Field. The Roses took the 1-0 win over AFC Toronto following an early goal from Tanya Boychuk.
Now into week six, the Roses remain at the top of the table with ten points – and yet, the table is tightens as the Roses head into this home match following their first loss of the inaugural season and it was on the road against the Calgary Wild FC, yet Montreal has thus far proven the intensity and talent with their standout games, the team will without a doubt be eager to bounce back after its first loss in front of a home crowd.
AFC Toronto, on the other hand, head into matchup riding a high following a three-game unbeaten streak, most recently wrapping up a 1-0 result on the road over the Halifax Tides FC.
Toronto will be looking to make a bounce back from the first meetup and to wrap up a two game road trip before they had back to York Lions Stadium for the next week of NSL action.
In other exciting news, AFC Toronto captain Emma Regan is headed back to the Canadian Women’s National team as she was called up for the 24 team roster by head coach Casey Stoney. Goalkeeper Sierra Cota-Yarde, who made her professional debut this month, has also received the team call-up for team Portugal.
