Pacific FC Inks International Midfielder Alexander González
Pacific FC has now signed Panamanian defensive midfielder Alexander González, who becomes the club’s 21st signing.
The 24-year-old player previously played for Panamanian outfit Plaza Amador, which plies its trade in the top Panamanian division. González clocked in some 31 appearances for them last season, and had also played for them in 2016, when the they won the Liga Panameña de Fútbol clausura and played in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Most of Alexander’s career has been spent in Panama, aside from recent stints with Venezuela’s Aragua FC and Colombia’s Jaguares de Cordoba FC. He has also appeared for Panama’s U-20 and U-17 sides, though he never got a call up to the senior side.
Pacific FC has the youngest squad in the league, with an average of just 24. While González is that age himself, he brings with him plenty of professional experience at a level that can’t be said for some of the team’s younger players:
Alexander is only 24-years-old and comes with great experience. He has played over 80 professional games, including CONCACAF Champions League games. He’s caught the attention of a few MLS teams, so we are very fortunate to have secured such an exciting player.
Rob Friend, Pacific FC CEO
Having conceded five goals in its first four games, head coach Michael Silberbauer will be hoping that Alexander’s experience with the pro game can help him lend a calm, veteran presence in the young side. While players like Emile Legault come from high pedigree, this will be their first year of competitive play. With so many youngsters, it’s good to have some players who have been on the battle lines before.
González won’t be available for the club’s Canadian Premier League match against York9 FC this Saturday, and will only be roster eligible on Sunday.
Financial details and contract length were not revealed by Pacific FC.
