Out For 2024: Aly Ndom Suffers Achilles Injury

Pacific’s Aly Ndom had quickly settled himself as a star defender in the CPL, but will now miss the remainder of the season after picking up a long-term injury.

Ndom had gone down in a no-contact manner in the opening minute of a league match against Atletico Ottawa last weekend, sparking fears of a long-term injury.

Unfortunately, that is indeed the case: the midfielder-turned-centre-back is confirmed to have ruptured his Achilles tendon, officially sidelining him for the remainder of the 2024 CPL season.

“Aly has unfortunately had his 2024 season come to an end,” says PFC head coach James Merriman. “You cannot replace a player with his leadership qualities, ability and character on the field. Our group will need to give even more now in his absence on the field and our defenders will play for him each game.”

Ndom had come in as a direct successor to Amer Didic, with the Ligue 2 veteran turning heads through Pacific’s opening stanza this season. He played in every possible minute of their league campaign up to his injury, during which the side had yet to concede a goal.

Pacific has confirmed that the club will support the 27-year-old, who is on a two-year deal, throughout his long-term injury.

“Off the field Aly is still our player, he’s part of our family we have an excellent medical team and we will be with him every step of the way through-out his recovery,” added Merriman.

The season-ending injury means that the Frenchman will be removed from Pacific’s primary roster and placed on the inactive list, with the club receiving cap relief for compensation owed to Ndom for the rest of the season. Given what he brought to the table, however, he’ll be a big miss for the Isle.

The left-footed defender had nearly 100 appearances in France’s second tier – and twenty in its top – having also played in Italy, Romania, and Finland before his latest Canadian stop.

Ndom isn’t the only athlete to suffer a season-ending injury this year, with Atletico Ottawa’s Jonathan Grant picking one up before the season began.

The match in which Ndom suffered his injury also saw Adonijah Reid and Sean Young go off in with knocks in the first half, through Pacific has confirmed these two players are now back in training.

The Vancouver Isle side is on the mainland tonight to face Vancouver FC at 3:00PM local time (6:00PM EST).
