With James Merriman helping Pacific FC collect an average of over two points per game, it’s no surprise to see the Tridents formally extend the gaffers stay.

The Vancouver Isle native has signed a new three-year deal with Pacific FC with a club option for a further two years.

The brand new deal is slated to begin in 2024, just months after James Merriman surpassed 2021’s title-winning coach Pa-Modou Kah for the most wins in club history.

Merriman had assisted inaugural head coach Michael Silberbauer and his successor Pa-Modou Kah before stepping into top spot last season, helping the club to an impressive 25-12-13 record and a semi-final appearance last season.

“James has been a pillar of this club since day one and we are very excited to secure his services well into the future,” said PFC President Josh Simpson.

“We have seen him develop into one of the top coaches in this country and we are lucky to have him continue his journey with us for another five years.”

Pacific FC are currently flying high at the top of the league table, with the most goals scored, and least goals conceded, and several big wins already on the books for the 2023 CPL season – big receipts for a club that lost big players in Marco Bustos and Callum Irving in the offseason.

“James embodies the hard work and passion that this club and community are about,” added club captain Josh Heard.

“He is a winner that cares deeply about the sport and the players that he leads.”
