Pacific Adds Colombian Defender Juan Quintana

Just one day after we reported that Pacific FC had closed in on signing Colombian defender Juan Quintana, the Tridents have made the move official.

The 20-year-old has signed a one-year deal that includes two subsequent club options, potentially keeping the centre-back on the Isle through to 2026.

This will mark Juan’s first time playing away from Orsomarso SC, for whom the youth product tallied 37 league appearances and five cup matches since making his professional debut two years ago.

“Quintana is ball-winning central defender with good physicality who can play anywhere across our back line,” says PFC head coach James Merriman. “He is an extremely motivated young player with good experience, a strong mentality, and a high potential to develop.”

The player had already been listed by Soccerway as a Pacific FC roster member a few days ahead of the announcement. That website once revealed the entirely unannounced Atletico Ottawa roster, and they’d somehow scooped today’s transfer as well.

Juan Quintana will join a defensive line led by Thomas Meilleur-Giguere, with fellow international Aly Ndom having come in to fill the big gap left by Amer Didic. With Paul Amedume nad Eric Lajeunesse also pressing for minutes, there should be ample competition in the position.

Quintana won’t be the only young defender to fight for minutes in that position, with Paul Amedume and USPORTS defender Eric Lajeunesse both returning to the Tridents this year.

The Tridents were the only team to keep a clean sheet in the league’s opening weekend, with the new Colombian signing eligible to make his debut when Valour comes to the Isle on Friday.
