Pacific Close In On Colombian Defender Juan Quintana

Canadian Premier League side Pacific FC looks to have landed its fifth international signing of the season, though no club announcement has been put forth as of yet.

The club has closed in on 20-year-old Colombian defender Juan Quintana, who arrived from his native country’s second division and is currently settling in to Langford, BC.

This will mark the centre-back’s first time playing away from Orsomarso SC, for whom the youth product tallied 37 league appearances and five cup matches since making his professional debut two years ago.

While he last suited up for the Orsomarso first team in August, he looks to be a strong pickup from Colombia’s second tier:

Interestingly, Soccerway – which once revealed the entirely unannounced Atletico Ottawa roster back in 2021 – already lists Quintana as a Pacific player.

Eagled-eyed fans (apologies for the VFC lingo) have even spotted a social media story showing Juan Quintana in Langford, all but confirming the Colombian’s imminent signing. PFC head coach James Merriman and the club captain Josh Heard both follow the defender as well.

He will join a centre-back contingent led by Thomas Meilleur-Giguere, with fellow international Aly Ndom having come in to fill the big gap left by Amer Didic.

Quintana won’t be the only young defender to fight for minutes in that position, with Paul Amedume and USPORTS defender Eric Lajeunesse both returning to the Tridents this year.

The Canadian Premier League primary transfer window remains open until next Tuesday, with clubs having been required to be roster compliant by April 1.

Pacific FC opened the club’s sixth season with a narrow win over Halifax this weekend, with Quintana’s potential debut coming when Valour lands on the Isle this Friday – assume he’s formally signed and announced by then, of course.
