Pacific FC’s inaugural player signing is coming back home.

The Canadian Premier League club has just announced the return of Kadin Chung on a two-year deal amidst rumours that Marco Bustos will also be heading back to Vancouver Isle.

The 26-year-old’s first spell with the club saw him become a core piece of the Pacific roster, helping the team to a playoff championship in 2021 before cementing a move upwards to Toronto FC alongside Lukas MacNaughton.

After making eight MLS appearances, Canada’s top flight became home for Chung once again, albeit with Pacific’s new mainland neighbour Vancouver FC.

Hailed as a key signing for the fledging team, Kadin’s first season was marred by injuries which limited him to just 14 appearances. Completing 20 last season, he’s got a clean bill of health as swaps back to the Isle.

Pacific head coach James Merriman describes the returning full-back as one of the most well-rounded defenders in the country. He’s expected to slot back in to Pacific’s style of play well, particularly given his attacking strengths down the flank and capability to hold firm in one-on-one situations.

“Kadin returns to Pacific hungry with ambition to win and he still has the drive to push to that next level,” adds Merriman. “We look forward to welcoming Kadin back to the club and know very well what he brings on and off the field.”

The Tridents are transforming their roster after bowing out of the first round of playoffs last year, with Aidan Daniels and Ronan Kratt coming in to shake things up and more signings to come.

Despite their rivalry status, player movement between Pacific and Vancouver has occurred in every season since the latter arrived. Chung came in with Callum Irving for VFC’s inaugural campaign, with last year seeing the two clubs endeavour for a high-profile player loan swap that, it’s fair to say, Pacific got the best of.
