Canadian Premier League side Pacific FC is looking local with its latest addition, bringing in Vancouver Isle Wave forward Mattias Vales on a development deal.

That means the 5’7 teenager will be eligible to make up to four appearances with Pacific FC while maintaining his amateur status with the Vancouver Isle Wave 2007 Boys team. He’s eligible to sign a second development deal upon the conclusion of his first, with PFC having also added 17-year-old Sami Keshavarz ahead of the season’s start.

“Mattias is a very talented young player with a lot of potential,” says Pacific FC assistant coach Chris Merriman, who describes Vales as a dynamic youngster who has impressed the club with his professionalism in training.

The youngster plays for his highschool team at St. John’s Academy in Shawnigan Lake, having previously played club ball for the Juan de Fuca Soccer and Gorge Soccer Association ahead of his time in the Trident Development Program and Vancouver Island Wave.

He primarily plays on the left wing and central midfield, and enjoys one-on-one duels whilst on duty with the Wave.

“The Wave Program was designed to provide a professional pathway for youth players with the potential to become a homegrown player for Pacific,” adds Pacific FC Executive Director of Youth Programs Shawn Fiddick, who joined the club in January.

The Tridents will host Cavalry at Starlight Stadium this afternoon, with both Mattias and Sami on the bench. A win for the hosts could see them rise into second, while a win for the visitors would see them level on points with Pacific.
