Canadian defender Thomas Meilleur-Giguere will remain on the Isle for another season.

The 2024 CPL season will be his fourth with Pacific, where the 26-year-old picked up a North Star Shield in 2021. The Quebecois centre-back has proven to be a key performer under both Pa-Modou Kah and James Merriman, with the club today confirming its activation of a club option for 2024.

Thomas made an incredible 31 appearances for the Tridents last season, missing just three matches across all competitions. He continued a strong partnership with Amer Didic at the back while also helping the side procure four goals at the other end. He’s been a consistent performer the CPL level, and Pacific fans are sure to be happy regarding his return.

“TMG is a warrior on our backline,” added Pacific’s manager of football and former captain Jamar Dixon. “Throughout his four seasons with us he has been a consistent, strong part of our club and he found his eye for the goal last season. We’re thrilled to have him back in Langford for another year.”

The defender’s first season in purple saw him finish as the club’s only iron man at the Island Games, though the following season saw injuries largely curtail his campaign. He’s been in good health ever since, tallying 34 appearances in a 2022 campaign that also saw him feature in continental action, with 2023 going injury-free as well.

Prior to his time in Purple, the six-foot-one centre-back got his professional start with CF Montreal, where he was loaned to their affiliate sides in FC Montreal and the Ottawa Fury, the latter of whom he made 61 appearances for prior to signing with Pacific alongside Jamar Dixon.

The Tridents back line features full-back Kunle Dada-Luke and Georges Mukumbilwa, with youngster Paul Amedume on the last year of a three-year deal. It remains to be seen if key defender Amer Didic will return, particularly as some sizable intra-league offers have come in for the big man.

With Thomas now entering the final year of contract amidst uncertainty that his centre-back partner will return, there could be a big spotlight on TMG as the season gets underway.
