There’s been a lot of movement between Pacific FC and MLS NEXT Pro side North Texas SC of late, and Paul Amedume now finds himself as the latest addition from a growing link between the two.

The 18-year-old defender had signed with Pacific FC on a developmental deal in October, making his debut against FC Edmonton on the day of his announcement. While there has been no further public news about the six-foot-two youngster, he recently signed a contract with the west coast side prior to joining former Pacific FC head coach Pa-Modou Kah down at North Texas SC.

Kah has been quite keen on the young talent, who first came onto the Pacific FC radar through James Merriman and – admittedly – flew under FC Edmonton’s radar in their own backyard before heading out west.

We knew Paul’s quality. When he was let go by the Whitecaps, James always kept a tab on him and we asked him where he was. He was also in Edmonton, but they didn’t see his value. When we went to play Edmonton, we saw him through the BTB Academy which is a great academy that is producing young, local players.

North Texas SC has now picked up the youngster on a one-year loan that includes an option to buy, so it’ll be interesting to see how the six-foot-two teenager performs at the MLS NEXT Pro level. It is expected that CPL star Mohammed Farsi is also set for the new league, albeit with Crew 2 instead.

“We’re very happy to have Paul join us for the 2022 season,” said North Texas General Manager Matt Denny, “he’s a promising player who’s worked with our coaching staff before in the Canadian Premier League and we believe he can help us during our inaugural MLS NEXT Pro campaign.”

Amedume is capable of playing as both a midfielder and a defender, though it appears he’ll be continuing in the centre-back role which fans saw during his debut with Pacific.

Former Pacific FC head coach Pa-Modou Kah departed for North Texas SC after securing Pacific its first-ever North Star Shield. He was a finalist for the FC Dallas head coach role not long before that, viewing the opportunity as the next stepping stone in a promising coach career.

He brought former Pacific coach Vikram Virk along with him for the journey, with Paul Amedume now representing the third Pacific link to land himself with the MLS NEXT Pro side.

“I gave Paul three things for me which is very important for a centre-back,” reflected Kah on the youngster, “to always communicate, to always organize, and to be hard to beat. Up to this day, he still remembers this.”

Pacific has signed and loaned out teenage talent before, sending young goalkeeper Emil Gazdov on a two-year loan to FC Nurnburg. The youngster is now set for his first full season with Pacific as competition for Callum Irving.

The length of Amedume’s contract with Pacific FC was not disclosed by the club, but it is expected to be a multi-year deal.
