Former Canadian Premier League forward Keven Aleman has introduced himself to Indonesian football in style.

The 29-year-old – who had played for Atletico Ottawa, FC Edmonton, and Valour FC in the past – had signed for Indonesian top flight relegation battlers Persikabo 1973 two weeks ago, one of several fresh faces hired in a bid for them to rise up from second-last in league rankings at the midpoint of the season.

The left-footed attacker has always shown not just fast feet in a number ten role, but an eye for spectacular goals as well. When making his debut against RANS Nusantara, a club who have double Persikabo’s points, Aleman showed exactly why he was brought in:

(you may want to turn your headphones down because there’s an absolute bop playing for this clip)

The Canadian’s goal was an equalizer for the struggling side, who managed to bag the winner nine minutes from time. Aleman had come on in the 46th minute, scoring his first goal just four minutes later. It was a well-struck volley, though goalkeeper Hilmansyah will probably want that one back given his good positioning for it.

The former Sacramento Republic midfielder also has experience with Real Valladolid B in Spain and several stints in Costa Rica with Deportivo Saprissa, Herediano, and Belen (which eventually became Guadalupe FC, where he returned on loan ahead of the 2021 CPL season). While this may be his first stint in Indonesia, it’s safe to say he’s well-acclimated to the life of a journeyman footballer.

His last stint in Canadian circles saw him arrive to Atletico Ottawa on a one-year deal with a club option. He scored twice en route to Atletico Ottawa’s regular season win, but found his option year declined by the club and had been a free agent for the entire year ahead of his move to Persikabo 1973.

Aleman has also accrued four caps for the Canadian national team, making his senior debut against Mexico in 2013. His last appearances came four years later against El Salvador under Octavio Zambrano.

With Persikabo 1973 gathering three big points for just their third win of the season, it’ll be interesting if head coach Aji Santoso leans further on the Canadian baller after he made such an introduction.
