Alberta Premier League: Wild Scores Nine

Four matches occurred in the Alberta Premier League last week as the fascinating title race continues. Tuesday saw Calgary Wild U23 score nine times in a 9-0 defeat of Callies United. Ayanna Ried Garvey netted a hat-trick for the hosts in a comprehensive victory. The other game ended 1-0 in Calgary Foothills’ favour over Calgary Blizzard.

The Blizzard did recover on Friday, claiming a 6-0 success over Callies United. It was a bad week for the latter, who was in the game at the half before shipping five goals to their opponents in the second period. BTB Academy came from two goals in their game against the Wild U23 to claim a point from a 2-2 draw.

The Wild U23 currently leads going into the final few weeks of the season, but it is far from decided. The Blizzard, BTB, and even the Foothills are still in the running.

Next week will see the Foothills face the Calgary Villains in the lone Tuesday clash. A few days later, the Villains face Callies, the Foothills are at BTB, and the Blizzard faces St. Albert Impact.

Prairies Premier League: Bonivital Captures Title

The inaugural Prairies Premier League season is down to the final week, with the title now being decided after last week’s play. The first game was on Tuesday, where the Thunder Bay Chill had a double from Olivia Walsh to defeat QC United 2-1 on the road.

Saturday’s game ended 1-0 for FC Manitoba at Sask Excel Academy, while the week ended with Bonivital getting past QC United 3-0. Jade Lopez scored the opener shortly before the break before Sarah Nason’s brace put the game out of reach.

Bonivital is the league’s first champion, earning 20 points from their 10 games. Although there is still a week to go, no one can catch them at the top. None of the other places are decided as of yet.

The final week of the first-ever PPL season will take place next week. Sask Excel hosts Lucania on Thursday, with Thundery Bay taking on FC Manitoba the next day. Lucania will close the season on Saturday at home to QC United.

Ontario Premier League: Title and Promotion Confirmed

There was a lot of football that took place in the Ontario Premier League last week as one side clinched promotion as part of what was a double gameweek in both the OPL1 and OPL2.

Here is a look back at how things went in Ontario.

Ontario Premier League 1: Rovers Nearing Another Title

We are a lot closer to knowing the OPL1 champion after last week’s action. Similarly, the relegated team is all but a certainty at this stage.

In the midweek round, NDC Ontario kicked things off with a 3-0 success over Waterloo United. FC London then topped North Toronto Nitros 3-1, something Guelph United also did against the Woodbridge Strikers. Scrosoppi and Vaughan Azzurri played to a 1-1 draw, while Simcoe County Rovers prevailed 7-1 at North Mississauga.

The big match of the week was on Saturday in a battle between the top two sides. At JC Massie Field, Simcoe picked up a 3-0 win against NDC Ontario. Two goals in first half stoppage time put the defending champions in a solid position before a third was added after the break.

In Sunday’s action, Scrosoppi defeated North Toronto 5-1, Guelph topped North Mississauga 7-0, Waterloo edged Woodbridge 2-1, and Vaughan beat FC London 4-0.

With three full rounds left, Simcoe is on the cusp of retaining the title. Their lead over NDC has gone up to seven points. They can clinch the title next weekend. As for North Miss, their relegation is all but confirmed, as they have yet to pick up a point in 14 games.

Wednesday has a pair of games, as North Toronto hosts North Miss with a chance of sending them down. Vaughan faces Guelph in the other clash. NDC faces Scrosoppi on Friday, hoping to keep their slim hopes of winning the title alive.

Saturday has the week’s other four matches, with London facing Simcoe, Woodbridge battling Vaughan, North Miss taking on Waterloo, and North Toronto meeting Guelph.

Ontario Premier League 2: Pickering Seals Promotion

The OPL2 has the first significant spot confirmed after last week’s double gameweek. Midweek play saw Pickering FC edge Whitby 1-0, and Unionville Milliken top Rush Canada 3-2 on Tuesday.

Wednesday’s results were a 2-1 Burlington SC triumph over Tecumseh, Hamilton United Elite beating International FC 5-0, and Oakville SC prevailing 3-0 over Cambridge United.

Weekend action started on Saturday, where Cambridge defeated International 2-1, Pickering beat Unionville 5-2, and Hamilton edged Burlington 1-0. On Sunday, Oakville and Whitby played to a 1-1 stalemate before Rush topped Tecumseh 2-0.

With three weeks left in the season, Pickering won the title, with their nine-point gap to Hamilton being enough due to having already achieved more wins than the latter can reach this year. Hamilton and Whitby will be in battle for second to decide who will play in the playoff, while International, Unionville, and Burlington look to stay in the league.

Friday night has another huge game as Whitby hosts Hamilton. Pickering plays in the other game that night versus Rush Canada. On Saturday, Burlington meets Cambridge, Unionville welcomes International in a relegation six-pointer, and Tecumseh battles Oakville.

Ontario Premier League 3: Railway Keeps Playoff Chase Alive

The OPL3 is down to its last two weeks of the regular season, with playoff places still to be decided. In the Northeast Conference, Simcoe B got the better of the Kingston Sentinels 3-0 in a significant win. Whitby B was involved in the other two games, beating Unionville B 4-0, but losing 1-0 to North Toronto B.

It was a busier week in the Central Conference, which saw the Sudbury Cyclones play twice. They beat Scrosoppi B 3-1 on Saturday, but fell 2-1 the next day to Richmond Hill. Elsewhere, Rush Canada B topped Burlington B 3-1, Vaughan B got past Scrosoppi B 3-0, and Oakville B edged Rush B 1-0.

Railway City won their Southwest Conference clash 4-0 at Hamilton B on Thursday to keep their hopes of winning the wildcard spot alive. Waterloo B got past Cambridge B 2-0, Tecumseh B triumphed 2-1 over London B, and Guelph B defeated Hamilton B 2-1 as well.

There is no change in conference leaders, nor the wildcard spot, after the latest week of OPL3 action. Moreover, no team has officially clinched a playoff spot. That will likely change next week.

Simcoe B will have a chance to lock down a playoff spot at Unionville B on Tuesday before facing Kingston and International B. The Sentinels also have Pickering B, while Master’s faces International B.

Woodbridge B takes on Scrosoppi B twice next week, while Vaughan B has Richmond Hill and North Mississauga B, and Sudbury faces Burlington B. As for Railway, they battle London B and Waterloo B. St. Catherines Roma Wolves will return to action against Cambridge B.

LS PRO Quebec: Sherbrooke Completes Comeback

The Coupe du Quebec group stage is just about over, with 15 of the 16 knockout round teams now being confirmed.

On Tuesday, Mistral de Sherbrooke edged Cosmos de Granby 2-1, completing a second half comeback to advance to the next stage. CS Trident got past AS Chaudiere-Ouest 3-1 as both teams had already moved on, while Celtix du Haut-Richelieu beat AS Brossard 3-0 on the road.

Only Group E is left to be completed now, with CS Mont Royal Outremont already through. They will face CS LaSalle, who looks to join them in the knockout round. CS Roussillon, already eliminated, will take on CS St-Hubert in the other match. The dates and times for both matches are yet to be confirmed.

Ligue 1 Quebec: Blainville Wins the Title

The Ligue 1 Quebec campaign is going down to the wire, but the champion is already decided. That goes to AS Blainville, who defeated Academie CF Montreal 2-0 on Tuesday before taking down defending champions and nearest challengers CSMRO 1-0 at home. The other title playoff games for the week saw Royal Beauport top Celtix 4-1, and Chaudiere-Ouest defeat Academie CFM 3-0.

CS Longueuil was the only team in the relegation playoffs to score last week, winning 3-0 away to Lakeshore SC. Ottawa South United and FC Laval ended scoreless, as did the key game between CS St-Laurent and AS Laval.

All 12 teams have two games left in their season. While the title is already decided, St-Laurent, Lakeshore, and AS Laval are left to figure out which two of the three will go down to Ligue 2 Quebec for next year.

There are only five matches next week, as one game is postponed. Celtix meets Academie CFM, Beauport faces CSMRO, Blainville takes on Chaudiere-Ouest, FC Laval hosts Lakeshore, and Longueuil plays St-Laurent.

Ligue 2 Quebec: AS Gatineau In Trouble

It was not a very good week for AS Gatineau in Ligue 2 Quebec play as they lost both of their games as part of a five-match week. They fell 4-0 to title challengers CS St-Hubert on Friday, before CS Boucherville piled on the misery on Sunday with a 1-0 result.

In the other three clashes, AS Brossard edged Revolution FC 2-1, CS LaSalle topped CS Trident 5-3 in a thriller, while CS Levis-Est got past CS Trois-Rivieres 4-1.

Most of the 10 sides have five games left in their season, as the title, promotion playoff spots, and relegation places are still not known. AS Gatineau’s two losses keeps them in the bottom two, leaving them short on time to climb out.

There are only four games next week, all on Saturday. LaSalle and Revolution will have the week off, having played an extra match so far. St-Hubert hosts Levis-Est, Trident meets CS Fury de Rimouski, AS Gatineau and Trois-Rivieres face off in the match of the week, and AS Brossard meets Boucherville in a promotion playoff clash.

Ligue 3 Quebec: West Ottawa, Victoriaville Win Easily

It was a full round of Ligue 3 Quebec action as the regular season nears its completion. Sunday had all four matches, which kicked off with a 7-1 Optimum de Victoriaville win over Phenix des Rivieres. Five different players got on the scoresheet for the hosts.

CF L’International de Quebec triumphed 2-0 over Union Lanaudiere Sud, while CS Du Bas-Richelieu got past CS Roussillon 1-0 on the road. West Ottawa SC won the other game, beating Cosmos de Granby 6-0.

L’International’s win pushed them further clear of the relegation zone as the gap is now up to six points. They even have a shot at a promotion playoff spot, sitting five points behind Roussillon. There were no changes at the top, with West Ottawa still five points clear of Victoriaville.

In next week’s action, Phenix will try to climb off rock bottom at home to L’International on Friday. The other three games, all on Saturday, see Sherbrooke face West Ottawa, Cosmos take on Roussillon, and Union Lanaudiere Sud facing Victoriaville.
