Benjamin Mora Lands Liga MX Coaching Gig With Queretaro
Former York United head coach Benjamin Mora has returned to Liga MX.
This season’s Nine Stripes boss has been unveiled as the new head coach of Queretaro, who have suffered greatly in this year’s Apertura rankings.
The move marks a return long in the making, with Mora having once assisted with the side earlier on in his career.

The 45-year-old CPL coach of the year nominee had been linked with the Chivas Guadalajara post and said he’d be interested in returning to Liga MX. He’ll now get his chance to revive Queretaro for the Clausura next month.

Mora’s time with York United was brief but successful: replacing Martin Nash early in the season, he helped York United achieve a points-record season and a first-ever home playoff game. Winning that, the team then bowed out in the quarter-final against Atletico Ottawa.
York United has since appointed Mora and Nash’s assistant, Mauro Eustaquio, to the lead role. He was the club’s first international coach hire.
The Mexican’s move to Queretaro won’t be his first time coaching in Mexico’s top flight: before joining York United, he had a year-long stint with Atlas, leaving when they were in thirteenth – several spots higher than his new side finds itself right now.

He has also coached in Malaysia, tallying multiple Malaysian Super League honours and Charity Shields during two stints in charge of Johor Darul Ta’zim II, who reached the AFC Champions League Round of 16.
Mora had also coached the Tijuana reserves and had assisted both Queretaro and Atlante before leading lower division side Atletico Chiapas earlier in his managerial career.
