Former Cavalry Veteran Joe Mason Comes Out Of Retirement

When Cavalry signed English Championship veteran Joe Mason five years ago, the expectations were always high. Through three years in Cavalry red, the striker record seventeen goals in 59 appearances for the club throughout all competitions, helping Cavalry finish as regular season champions in 2023.

The striker – who had tallied 185 appearances in the English Championship beforehand – was then let go upon the expiry of his contract, returning home to England and largely disappearing from the footballing world.

Now, however, the 35-year-old striker has resurfaced with Radstock Town, who ply their trade deep down in the tenth tier of English football.

The Plymouth-born forward brings a wealth of experience from England’s second tier, with the former Plymouth Argyle man having also featured for the likes of Cardiff City, Bolton Wanderers, Wolverhampton Wanderers (who were promoted to the Premier League during his spell there), and Burton Albion.

He was playing League One football with MK Dons before his move to Canada in ’21, but that wasn’t his first taste of North American football following a prior loan spell with Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids.

Mason’s first two seasons with Cavalry were quite prolific, with the forward tallying 16 goals through 38 appearances. His third and final season would see him contribute just one goal in 21 appearances, however, seemingly marking an end to the professional era of his career.

Still, it’s nice to see the 35-year-old step back into things and help out in the lower divisions of English football. Radstock Town finished seventeenth out of twenty last season, only securing survival in the tenth flight on the last day of the season. Suffice to say, it’s a club that could use a little help up top.
