Jordan Hamilton Makes Move To Myanmar

While former Forge striker Jordan Hamilton was seen taking in a Canadian Premier League match just two weeks ago, the 29-year-old striker has now resurfaced with Myanmar top flight club Shan United.

The move abroad comes after three seasons spent with Forge in Canada’s top flight, where Hamilton had tallied seven goals, 63 appearances, and two playoff championships.

Flashback: How Forge Scooped Up Jordan Hamilton

Hamilton’s new side is the long-running reigning champion of the Myanmar National League, having won the league five-years running since 2019, accounting for one gap year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The country itself is still amidst a civil war triggered by a series of insurgencies followed by a coup d’etat in 2021. Shan United is located in Shan state capital of Taunggyi, which was also hit by an earthquake this spring, though club operations have remained in full.

The Shan United squad is largely comprised of domestic players, though it does include Japanese players Yuki Aizu and Ryuji Hirota – along with a Japanese head coach – and Ghanaian midfielder Mark Sekyi.

This won’t be the forward’s first time playing abroad: his early TFC days saw him undergo a loan to Portuguese second tier side CD Trofense, while Jordan also spent a season with Irish side Sligo Rovers in 2022.

The Scarborough native got his professional start with Toronto FC, where his stock reached its high point: he tallied 37 goals in 135 appearances across all competitions, participating in the club’s treble winning season. He was then traded to the Columbus Crew in 2020, where a less influential season still saw him play part of an MLS Cup-winning side there, too.

The twice-capped Canadian international also suited up for Indy Eleven back in 2021, stopping over in Ireland with the Sligo Rovers before his CPL chapter began after years of speculation.

The length and details of Hamilton’s contract with Shan United are currently unclear.
