Sporting Kansas City Signs Canadian Left-Back Zorhan Bassong
Former CF Montreal left-back Zorhan Bassong is returning to Major League Soccer pastures.
The 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year contract with Sporting Kansas City that includes club options for 2025 and 2026. Having spent the last season abroad, the move is pending his International Transfer Certificate and visa.
A twice-capped Canadian international, Bassong was born in Toronto but raised in Montreal to a Belgian mother and Cameroonian father.
Developing with the likes of Anderlecht, Lille, and Cercle Brugge, he signed a two-year deal with CF Montreal in 2021 and made 43 appearances before moving on at the conclusion of his contract despite further club options.
This season saw him play for Romanian sides Arges Pitesti and Farul Constanta, with Bassong mutually terminating his contract with Constanta, the reigning champions, three months ago.
The left-back arrives as a timely replacement for Logan Ndenbe, who suffered an ACL tear last month and is expected to be sidelined for some time. Also vying for the position in Kansas is 30-year-old veteran Tim Leibold.
