Valour Adds TFC Full-Back Themi Antonoglou
We had seen Toronto FC left-back Themi Antonoglou could be en route to the Canadian Premier League, with Valour FC announcing his arrival today.
The pacey defender arrived after making thirteen Major League Soccer appearances for Toronto FC last year, with another fifteen coming for their MLS NEXT Pro squad.
We surmised the TFC Academy product – who was scouted by Danny Dichio himself back then – would be an attractive player in CPL pastures, particularly given the versatility he lends the club: he can also push up into midfield, and can be deployed on the opposite right flank too.
“Themi will bring undeniable quality to our squad,” said Valour FC boss Phillip Dos Santos, who needed to recruit someone capable of filling the big shoes left by Matteo De Brienne. By all account, Antonoglou could fit the bill nicely at the CPL level.
“He’s a player who acquired valuable experience in the past few years with TFC. I like his composure on the ball and ability to read situations well on the field.”
He won’t be the only Toronto FC prospect to land in Winnipeg this season, with Jordan Faria having signed as well.
The Winnipeg-based side is undergoing a hefty roster overhaul following a tough 2023 season, but it’s fair to say some interesting puzzle pieces are coming together at Princess Auto Stadium.
