Toronto FC opened its 2024 MLS campaign with a draw, recording its first MLS point of the year at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Following the scoreless draw, supporters of the Reds can feel they have many things to look forward to ahead of the season as this opening game displayed a great defensive showing from Coach Herdman’s newly signed defender Kevin Long, who made his first start for Toronto FC. Another debut that impressed was none other then midfielder Deybi Flores.

Goalkeeper Sean Johnson was also named man of the match after putting in a couple of note worthy saves against the reigning supporters’ shield winners, shutting them down and recording his 100th career clean sheet.

Coach Herdman was without injured forwards Jordan Perruzza and Deandre Kerr, newly signed defender Nicksoen Gomis, and MLS super draft top pick Tyrese Spicer.

Overall the performance from Toronto FC showed several positive signs of hope as they look to build up from a horrible 2023 campaign. Toronto FC will look to carry on the amazing defensive play into their next match up next Sunday where they will be away going up against New England before they return home for the March 9 home opener at BMO Field against Charlotte.
