Toronto FC took to the pitch in vibrant, Caribbean-inspired colours this weekend, strengthening club ties to the community through a new partnership with the Toronto Caribbean Carnival.
Dubbed ‘The Energy Kit,’ the bright dual-tone blue, pink, and yellow kits are a direct nod to the masquerade bands who fill the streets of Toronto during the city’s Caribbean Carnival each summer, with the kit even featuring a textured pattern akin to the feathers sees adorning many outfits during the event.
It’s a celebration of culture, with TFC icon Dwayne De Rosario – a prominent member of the city’s Caribbean community and a descendant of Guyanese parents himself – stating that the kit is a way for Toronto FC to show gratitude and strengthening its community connections going forward.
Despite the bright colours, Toronto FC finds itself in dark times languishing near the bottom of league standings with an interim head coach and a tremendously high wage bill.
The club may have fallen to St. Louis one-nil over the weekend, but we wanted to highlight the gesture of cultural importance made by the league.
