From Treaty No. 1 Territory to Treaty United.

For many years, it was looking like Raphael Ohin might be a one-club man with Valour FC. Instead, he marks that chapter of the history books as being the only playyer to be involved in all seven of the club’s seasons before it suspended operations.

We had reported that the thirty-year-old midfielder would be carrying on his career in Europe, with Irish side Treaty United now officially announcing his arrival.

The club hails from Ireland’s second tier and will kick off its season opener against Cork City tomorrow. It turns out Ohin has already played in preseason fixtures against Kerry FC, Sligo Rovers, and Galway United, the latter of whom signed two Valour ex-pats in Kris Twardek and Gianfranco Facchineri.

Treaty United head coach Tommy Barrett said he’s been delighted with the midfielder, who adds experience to the middle of the park and gives him a strong, quick, and technically good option for the matchday roster.

That should come as no surprise to those who’ve been following the new citizen of Limerick, Ireland: with 108 appearances for Valour FC, he left Winnipeg as the club’s all-time appearance leader, having recorded two goals and two assists in that time. He’s experienced highs and lows for the side, watching them lock horns against an MLS side in the Canadian Championship but also enduring long spells on the sideline following an ACL injury in both 2022 and 2023.

Still, ‘The Rhino’ was a core element for Valour FC, donning the captain’s armband two years ago and featuring in all but two matches for what became Valour’s final campaign. Born in Accra, Ghana, he moved to Winnipeg in 2016 and became a Canadian citizen in 2023.

“I’m really excited for the challenge ahead and the opportunity to be part of this club,” says Ohin. “I’m looking forward to bringing my experience, giving everything for the badge, and contributing on and off the pitch to help the team move forward.”

The last few weeks have seen a few other Valour players lock in their next moving following the folding of their former side, with highly-rated full-back Themi Antinoglou signing for the Las Vegas Lights and Bruno Figueiredo signing for Maltese top flight side Zabbar St Patrick FC.

Ohin, Twardek, and Facchineri aren’t the only Valour athletes now playying in Ireland, with Jordan Faria also signing for Waterford United.
