Rumour: Luca Petrasso Set For Triestina Loan
It looks like left-back Luca Petrasso will test himself in Italy on loan from Orlando City.
The left-back was first linked to an Italian job a few days ago, with Manuel Veth indicating that Orlando was open to an imminent loan move. Today, Gianluca Di Marzio has amplified a report stating that the 23-year-old is en route to Serie C side Triestina, who currently rest third in league rankings.
The Toronto-born full-back had arrived to Orlando from Toronto FC last November in a move involving $300,00 in 2023 General Allocation Money, with additional batches of $50,000 in 2024 and 2025 pending performance-based metrics.
However, Petrasso only garnered 14 appearances for his new club since his arrival, with Rafael Santos snatching the starting left-back spot over the last year.
In need of playing time, it looks like Italian third division side Triestina will offer him good minutes in a loan move that reportedly includes an option to buy. While La Casa Di C reports that this fee would come in the range of $365,000-$440,000, there is no concrete number available thus far.
It’s worth noting that if there is a deal in place that results in the sale of Luca Petrasso, Toronto FC’s trade of the full-back saw the club retain a sell-on percentage net TFC a portion of the proceeds.
For their part, Triestina already have former CF Montreal footballer Aljaz Struna amongst their ranks.
Orlando will have an early start to preseason after qualifying for the Concacaf Champions Cup, with home-and-away tilts against reigning CPL champions Cavalry FC on the menu for next month.
Luca’s older brother Michael also found himself in Europe recently, with York United loaning the midfielder to Maidstone United prior to the end of his contract. Di Marzio also reported on CPL striker Easton Ongaro, stating that he was en route to another Serie C side in Novara.
