Valour Adds Defender Abdou Samake

Canadian Premier League side Valour FC has swooped in to secure another Pacific defender with today’s acquisition of Abdou Samake on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old centre-back had made 53 appearances for the Tridents since joining them in 2020, where he’s shown plenty of growth at the CPL level. His rookie season at The Island Games was followed by a breakout title-winning campaign in 2021, with Samake making 23 appearances for the side this year.

With Amer Didic and Thomas Meilleur-Giguere ahead of him in the pecking order on the isle, a move to increase his playing time was a logical one for the Canadian-Malian defender. He becomes the second arrival from Pacific after the addition of left-back Jordan Haynes last week.

Prior to signing with Pacific in 2020, the six-foot-one defender had progressed through the CF Montreal academy system and had enjoyed a sharp-looking collegiate career with the University of Michigan.

Samake is the second new addition at IG Field, with Valour having previously announced nine returnees, while Brett Levis and Moses Dyer have moved on. The club also retained its draft rights for Jacob Carlos.

The length or financial details of Samake’s contract were not disclosed by the club.
