Canadian Premier League side Valour FC has signed Abdul Binate, who will arrive in Winnipeg as a relatively unknown quality in the CPL despite spending the last two years out west with Pacific.

The 21-year-old CF Montreal Academy product made just three off-then-bench appearances for Pacific this season for a grand total of 35 minutes on the pitch, with a preseason injury having sidelined him back in 2020.

Binate had also made four appearances for former League1 BC side Nauta’mawt FC, notching one goal against Unity FC.

Pacific had described him a fast-footed attacker with an eye for goal and strong dribbling ability, with Valour head coach Phillip Dos Santos evidently willing to take a chance on the youngster. We’ve seen that pay off in the league before, with Pacific’s Kunle Dada-Luke and former Valour man Matteo de Brienne flourishing in the league after going unused in their rookie CPL seasons.

It sounds like Valour is confident he’ll see good minutes, particularly as an athlete who qualifies for league-mandated domestic U-21 minutes.

“We are happy to sign an exciting young player like Abdul,” said Valour FC head coach Phillip Dos Santos. “He has Canadian Premier League experience and understands what it takes to play in this league. He’ll provide valuable U-21 domestic minutes for the squad, and we like his potential as an attacking player.”

Valour’s offseason has seen them add no less than seven athletes who had featured for other CPL teams, with Dos Santos aiming to build a roster from domestic players with experience in the league. While the others have more game time than Binate, he looks to be a low risk signing who can contribute youth minutes.
