Valour FC brought back a little something extra from their preseason trip to Portugal.

The Canadian Premier League side has announced the signing of Portuguese midfielder Diogo Ressurreicao, who most recently represented Portuguese side Vitoria de Guimareas.

Plying his trade with their reserves in Liga 3, the 23-year-old tallied one goal in sixteen appearances. While contracted with the team through to 2025, he was allowed to depart upon the turn of this calendar year and entered free agency in January.

Diogo had started his career with Sociedade Uniao 1º Dezembro after spending some youth days with Estoril, after which he accumulated 15 appearances for Porto’s B team in the second division, mostly coming off the bench for the Portuguese powerhouse’s reserve side.

Fittingly, the club’s new number six becomes their sixth international on the books for 2024, joining the ranks of Roberto Alarcon, Charalampos Chantzopoulos, Tass Mourdoukoutas, Jordan Swibel, and Kian Williams.

It’s expected that the Portuguese midfielder could be a fairly direct replacement to former captain Diego Gutierrez, with club original Raphael Ohin now donning the armband for the Winnipeg-based side.

This week also saw the club bring in Yukon Territory native Joe Hanson, with Valour ultimately stepping into 2024 with a much-transformed squad following a tough finish last year at the bottom of the table.

The length or financial terms of Diogo’s deal with Valour was not disclosed by the club.
