With all Canadian Premier League players on U SPORTS required to depart their clubs by August 15 if they’re to maintain their university team eligibility, there’s been a flurry of contract announcements this month.

Among them now is Valour goalkeeper Jordan Tisseur, who rode the bench some 19 times behind the considerably-sized shadow of Rayane Yesli.

The 23-year-old will return to the University of Montreal, where he helped the Carabins to a bronze finish at last year’s U SPORTS National Championship.

Tisseur had arrived to IG Field fresh off of a championship winning season with FC Laval in the PLSQ, where he also represented the league in an all-star preseason friendly against CF Montreal.

Tisseur had tasted the professional level in 2019 when he signed for now-defunct USL Championship side Ottawa Fury, having graduated from the CF Montreal Academy before that. That year also saw him feature for a Quebec U-21 selects team that went up against an Ontario equivalent in an event organized by the CPL.

Valour FC is required to have two goalkeepers on its standard roster to be roster compliant.

Behind the scenes we’re told this replacement is already secure, with an announcement expected soon. While former Valour keeper Matt Silva recently departed Gibraltar and had impressed out there, it remains to be seen if he’d return to the Winnipeg-based outfit.
