Valour Adds To Defence With Matthew Chandler
There’s a new, big figure in the Valour FC backline following a successful trial period.
Phillip Dos Santos’s team has added six-foot-six defender Matthew Chandler, whom we reported had joined the side for preseason back in mid-March.
Chandler had previously been available for the MLS SuperDraft. He made 21 appearances for the Wisconsin Badgers, prior to which the Toronto native suited up for St. John’s University 52 times, earning Big East Conference All-Academic Team honours from 2018 through to 2021.
The 23-year-old also has experience playing in Canada through the Oakville Blue Devils, making 13 appearances with the team reaching the championship final.
He won’t be the only former Blue Devil donning Valour’s colours this season, with former Cavalry and Forge striker Anthony Novak also now in the setup.
Chandler’s arrival makes him the fourteenth new face for Valour this season, with Phillip Dos Santos instilling change aplenty as he seeks to help the club rise to playoffs – and with the postseason being expanded even further this year, that’ll be an absolute must if he’s to stick around.
Valour FC did not disclose the length or financial details of Chandler’s contract.
