Valour Scoops Up Former Cavalry Right-Back Roberto Alarcon
Former Cavalry right back Roberto Alarcon is en route to Winnipeg.
The 25-year-old Spanish defender has inked signed on with Valour FC, ensuring that the former Universitatea Cluj defender will remain in the CPL for a third straight season.
“Roberto has qualities that could make him one of the league’s best full backs,” says Valour boss Phillip Dos Santos. “He’s dynamic, good on the ball and is a competitor. That’s what we need to win matches.”
The right-back spent the last two seasons with Cavalry FC, racking up 29 appearances in CPL pastures.
Unfortunately, a hamstring injury sustained this season limited him to just eleven appearances with the regular season champions in 2023. With his option being passed over, an offer from Valour now beckons a potential return to form.
The full-back’s career got its start through Spanish side RCD Mallorca B, though Alarcon does have North American playing experience after signing for FC Tucson in the United Soccer League back in 2020. After spending the next season in Romania with Universitatea Cluj, he arrived to Cavalry as a fill-in for a sidelined Fraser Aird.
Much like with Shaan Hundal, a move to Valour FC sprouted with some early contract with Phillip Dos Santos. Alarcon becomes the third new signing for the club, with all of the club’s acquisitions thus far having spent time in the league already.
Valour FC did not disclose the length of its contract with Roberto Alarcon.
