Vancouver FC Adds Mexican Forward Jose Navarro

On Friday Morning, Vancouver FC announced the signing of 20-year old Jose Navarro, a Mexican attacker from UNAM Pumas, on a two-year contact with club options that could keep him through 2027.

“I am very excited to join Vancouver and play a part in growing this club,” said Navarro upon his announcement. “Having the opportunity to play professional soccer in a top-tier league is something that is very important to me and I’m looking forward to the competition I’ll face in this new chapter.”

The second Mexican attacker to join the Eagles after Alejandro Diaz, Navarro featured heavily for Pumas’ U-20 & U-23 sides in Mexico, playing 27 matches and scoring three goals. He made his debut for the senior team in a late appearence against Club Nexaca in July 2022.

“Navarro’s physical power, work rate, and presence in the penalty box will make him one of the most exciting young strikers in the Canadian Premier League,” said VFC boss Afshin Ghotbi in the club’s media release. “A product of one of the best football clubs in Mexico, UNAM Pumas, Navarro possesses the qualities to complement Alejandro Diaz and company to make VFC a goal-dangerous team in the 2024 season.”

Navarro becomes the clubs’ sixth signing of the off-season, putting them in a strong position to compete ahead of their sophomore year in the CPL.

Thee media release also stated that ‘further Vancouver roster announcements will be made later this month’x meaning that the Eagles’ transfer activity is not yet be over.
