Canadian Premier League side Vancouver FC has made yet another addition to their roster, this time signing Canadian midfielder Kembo Kibato to a two-year contract.

Despite being Canadian, this will mark the first time Kibato has played professionally on home soil, having spent the last four years in the USL Championship.

“I am really excited for the opportunity to play professionally in Canada,” said Kibato upon his announcement. “I am thankful for the teams I’ve been able to play with so far in my career, but it is particularly special for me to represent a Canadian team on Canadian soil.”

A product of the Toronto FC Academy, Kibato made his professional debut with the now-defunct Rio Grande Valley FC in 2020 before moving to FC Tulsa in 2021. He made 60 appearances, scored two goals and registered one assist for Tulsa over two years and was voted as Newcomer of the Year in 2022.

That earned him a move to Hartford Athletic in 2023, where he made 19 appearances and registered one assist.

“We are excited to add one of the most complete Canadian midfielders available to our greatly improved VFC squad,” said Vancouver FC Head Coach Afshin Ghotbi in the press release.

“Kembo embodies a modern midfielder with the physical and technical range to play box-to-box on both sides of the game. He is a hard working ball winner who can also play an important role in creating and scoring goals. Kembo will play a key role in VFC’s 2024 season.”

Kibato is Vancouver FC’s eighth signing of the offseason so far, as they look to completely revitalize their squad ahead of the 2024 season, which begins at home against Valour FC on April 14th.

“VFC is an exciting project with so much potential and I am looking forward to playing my first professional games in Canada with this club,” added Kibato about his new side.
