Vancouver FC Loans Da Silva To Palmeiras
It’s looking like a smart piece of business for Vancouver FC.
The Canadian Premier League side just announced the loan of Brazilian defensive midfielder Michel Cavalcante Fonseca de Silva to Palmeiras through to January 26, 2027, with the loan including both a guaranteed fee and an option to buy.
The 19-year-old arrived in 2025 as a summertime reinforcement and quickly established himself with the Eagles, completing 16 appearances through all competitions and registering his first pro goal against Atletico Ottawa in the Canadian Championship.
Da Silva had been included in Vancouver FC’s 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup roster but did not ultimately feature in the first leg matchday roster. Now, it seems, fans have a clear picture why.
“From the moment Michel joined us, it was clear he would make an immediate impact,” says Vancouver FC President Rob Friend. “His technical ability, vision, and maturity at such a young age helped our squad level up during the second half of the 2025 season, contributing to some of our most important performances of the year.”
The VFC President describes Da Silva’s loan as a milestone moment for the club and seems to suggest his time with the Eagles is fully concluded, with Friend saying he was proud to have seen the club support Michel’s journey and that he looks forward to seeing him progress with Palmeiras.
The Vancouver FC roster changes from last year’s lowly finish now grows to eleven outbound, with ten coming in ahead of Martin Nash‘s first full campaign at the helm out west.
While Vancouver FC is only entering the club’s fourth season, it has already helped move on young talent before: Grady McDonnell was sold to Club Brugge in a move estimated to be worth €350,000 including add-ons, similarly netting VFC some profits despite a relatively short tenure with the Canadian top-flight side.
The club had originally identified Da Silva from his performance with EC Fortaleza’s U-20 team, with Vancouver FC seeing him flourish in a senior environment. Now set to prospect with Brazilian top-flight side Palmeiras – a three-time CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores and twelve-time Brazilian champion – he could have quite a career in front of him.
The Serie A side is where former Halifax Wanderers strike Tiago Coimbra developed, with the Canadian-Brazilian dual national earning a club-record sale to IFK Goteborg last month.
Da Silva’s loan is set to run through to January 26, 2027, with Vancouver FC’s guaranteed fee remaining undisclosed and Palmeiras having an option to purchase.
The club is going through an interesting moment in history, having finished last in its domestic league but qualifying for the Champions Cup after a miracle Canadian Championship run to the final, after which former head coach Afshin Ghotbi opened a lawsuit against the side he once called the best last-placed team in the history of the league.
