Former YUFC Defender Paris Gee Comes Home to Vancouver FC
In tangent with Vancouver FC’s 2024 Canadian Premier League schedule release, the club has announced the signing of 29-year-old defender Paris Gee on a two year deal.
“It’s always been in the back of my head to play in Vancouver and now it is happening,” said Gee in the club’s official press release. “To know that my friends and family can be in the stands for all 14 home games means the world to me and I can’t wait to get started.”
The BC-born defender was recently employed by York United, having called York Lions Stadium home since July 2022.
Gee played 2,330 minutes for York United across 26 matches and in various positions, swiftly becoming the team’s Swiss army knife. He was one of the leaders for York in defensive stats, including recoveries (149), interceptions (21), and clearences (73).
Gee started off his footballing journey in BC’s Lower Mainland, playing for youth teams in Burnaby and Coquitlam. He then joined the Vancouver Whitecaps academy before going off to play college soccer with SFU.
His professional journey would lead him through Croatia and the US before joining FC Edmonton for the 2021 CPL season. After nearly 10 years away from home, Gee will now come back to play for his hometown team in 2024.
“He is talented, versatile, consistent, durable, coachable and makes every team he plays for better,” adds head coach Afshin Ghotbi, who described the new addition as one of the most underrated players in the league.
The move puts Gee closer to home with his father, who is currently seeking a life-saving kidney donor.
Fans can watch Paris Gee play for his new club when Vancouver FC open up their 2024 CPL season against Valour FC at home on April 14th, 2024 at 4:00PM PT / 7:00PM EST.
