Vasco Fry Handed Two-Match Suspension
Canada may be going ‘elbows up’, but on the pitch that’s still a no-no.
Vancouver FC midfielder Vasco Fry has been retroactively handed a two-match ban for a rough elbow on York United’s Steffen Yeates, which was determined by Canada Soccer’s Incident Review Body to be a case of serious foul play.
Fry chose not to appeal the decision.
The Canadian-Peruvian midfielder is in the midst of his third Eagles season, and his second on a permanent deal after having initially arrived on loan from the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2023.

The 24-year-old has made 35 appearances under head coach Afshin Ghotbi since his arrival. Last season saw him serve a three-game suspension after receiving a straight red against Forge, and in the fall he served another one-match ban through yellow card accumulation.
As a result of this week’s suspension, Fry will be unavailable for selection in Vancouver FC’s match against Atletico Ottawa this Sunday, and against reigning champions Cavalry FC the weekend after – two high-profile games for a team still chasing its first postseason appearance.
The midfielder’s heavy elbow action was verbally commented on during the OneSoccer stream, and it appears with good cause – even if it was not picked up by the match official in the moment.
Fry becomes the third player to earn a two-game ban from the league’s opening weekend, with Atletico Ottawa’s Tyr Walker and Forge’s Zayne Bruno both having been sent off after two yellow cards.
