After Club-Record Season, York United Mutually Parts Ways With Benjamin Mora
Five months after Benjamin Mora arrived to York United and helped the club secured a club-record point season, the Nine Stripes have confirmed they’ve mutually parted ways with the Mexican head coach.
The 45-year-old coach of the year nominee had been linked with the Chivas Guadalajara post and had said he’d be interested in returning to Liga MX, though his next destination remains unknown for now.

“We are grateful to Benjamin for everything he brought to the club,” said YUFC President Ricardo Pasquel, who offered that Benjamin Mora had set a lot of new standards for the side in his five months at the helm.

In an interview with AS Mexico, Mora revealed that he felt neither York United or the CPL reflected the rate of growth he wanted for his own ambitions.
Ricardo and his brother Eduardo, who is the club’s CEO, will address the media about the matter on Thursday, November 14. The club has also confirmed that it has already begun searching for a new head coach.
Mora’s successor will become the club’s fourth head coach, which means the Nine Stripes will have changed head coaches more times than any other club in the league. Jim Brennan lead the club through it’s first three seasons, after which Martin Nash took charge until a few matches into the 2024 CPL season.
Mora was the club’s first international head coach hire. His reign, though successful, comes as the shortest seen in the league.
Prior to his time as the Nine Stripes’ boss, Mora had a year-long stint with Liga MX side Atlas, leaving the club in thirteenth place last October. He had come there following a strong stint in Malaysia, where he tallied multiple Malaysian Super League honours and Charity Shields during two stints in charge of Johor Darul Ta’zim II, who reached the AFC Champions League Round of 16under his guidance.

He’s also coached the Tijuana reserves and had assisted both Queretaro and Atlante before leading lower division side Atletico Chiapas earlier in his managerial career.
With York United having made history by winning its first-ever home playoff match this season – and Mora having instilled a mentality of play that goes easy on the eyes – it’ll be interesting to see who the Pasquel brothers bring in as his replacement.
