Head coach Mauro Eustaquio is adding to his offensive arsenal ahead of York United’s upcoming derby match against Forge.

The Nine Stripes have brought in 22-year-old Portuguese striker Bryan Rosa, who most recently suited up Portuguese lower division side SC Pombal, where he helped claim a league title.

Rosa was actually born in Northern Ireland, but was raised in Portugal. His career began in the youth ranks of Uniao de Leiria, with the striker later featuring for CD Tondela, GD. Peniche, and Dumiense CJPII Futebol SAD.

The Canadian Premier League will mark his first playing stint abroad.

“Joining York United means a lot to me,” says Rosa. “It’s a big accomplishment to play for this club. I’m here to help my teammates and win trophies with this club.”

The Nine Stripes have seen strong showings from Julian Altobelli and youngster Shola Jimoh up top, with Rosa bringing in an aggressive and physical presence up top, where he can hold up the ball in a similar technique to former Nine Stripes forwards Brian Wright or Simon Adjei.

He clocks in as the club’s fourth international signing behind the Mexican trio of Oswaldo Leon, Orlando Botello, and goalkeeper Diego Urtiaga.

The club’s new striker will be available for selection in this weekend’s 905 Derby match at home against Forge FC.

Rosa’s context runs for the full 2025 CPL season and includes a club option for 2026.
