21-year-old Canadian goalkeeper Eleias Himaras will be staying with York United for another season, with the club evidently activating his option for 2024.

The Greek-Canadian has re-signed with the Nine Stripes having made twelve appearances over the last two-and-a-half seasons, recording one clean sheet and a goals against average of 1.3 – a comparable number to number-one Niko Giantsopoulos’s 1.4.

The 2023 CPL season saw Himaras limited to just two appearances, with a combination of a meniscus surgery and an in-form Niko Giantsopoulos keeping him from tucked away from significant minutes.

The club also brought in Adisa De Rosario during a time when both goalkeepers suffered setbacks, with the loanee recording four appearances highlighted by some big stops.

Himaras – a native of London, Ontario – first arrived to York Lions Stadium in the midseason of 2021 as an emergency signing from League1 Ontario side Electric City FC, having previously suited up for both TFC2 and Canada at the U-17 level.

The goalkeeper – who arrived to the club at the age of 19 – has now aged out of the domestic U-21 player bracket.

He becomes the first roster update of the new year for York United, who are marching into 2024 with new ownership at the helm. The club has already confirmed a combination of departures and returning athletes, though it remains to be seen which camp number-one goalkeeper Niko Giantsopoulos will fall into.
