York United’s summer window has seen the club add second round draft pick Trivine Esprit to a U SPORTS deal, as per his League1 Ontario side Darby FC.

Described as a player with real bite to his game and solid technical ability, the new recruit had actually made his club debut last month against Atletico Ottawa, coming off the bench to see out the club’s 2-1 win.

Esprit had featured in seven League1 Ontario matches for Darby FC thus far this season, with the club resting sixteenth in league standings.

The Nine Stripes had recruited Trivine in the second round of the 2023 CPL-U SPORTS Draft, where he had impressed for both the Ridgebacks and in League1 Ontario, seeing action with expansion side Simcoe County Rovers with a spell at Unionville Milliken SC following.

Former York United midfielder Jordan Wilson had suggested that the club look closely at Esprit back then, with the 21-year-old now set to help contribute some of the club’s required domestic youth minutes.

The Canadian Premier League club is still looking to bring in another U-21 athlete to deputize the left-back position left vacant by Lassana Faye, who returned to his native Netherlands when the international transfer window opened.
