Diego Mejia Will Miss Ottawa’s Next Match
Atletico Ottawa head coach Diego Mejia will be sitting out the club’s home match against the Halifax Wanderers this weekend.
The 42-year-old will serve a one-match suspension for yellow card accumulation, marking the second time in consecutive seasons that Canada Soccer has sidelined the Ottleti boss for accumulating a few ol’ cheese slices.
While the capital city club will be riding a high after dispatching Toronto FC in the Canadian Championship, their league form leaves much to be desired: their last game saw them drop four goals in a heavy loss to Inter Toronto FC.
In all, they’ve conceded ten goals in just five league games – with only Pacific boasting a worse track record – while scoring just four, tied for worst in the league alongside a Vancouver FC side that only found its goalscoring touch two matchweeks ago.
Mejia had missed a league match for the club last May as well, also through yellow card accumulation. Assistant coach Diego Campos took over for what became a 2-2 comeback road draw against Vancouver FC.

The capital city club won the league last season under Diego Mejia, who flirted with a potential move to Liga MX before ultimately heading back to the nation’s capital for another season at the helm. He is Atletico Ottawa’s third head coach after Mista and Carlos Gonzalez.
Atletico Ottawa will be hoping to begin building form worthy of a title defense, though Vanni Sartini’s Halifax Wanderers will arrive hungry to break into the top half of league standings.
Atletico Ottawa will kick off against Halifax this Sunday at 1:00PM EST. While OneSoccer isn’t quite available on Rogers yet, fans might want to keep watch for such this summer.
Diego Mejia will return to the fold in time for the club’s match against Forge on May 24.
