Atletico Ottawa Sells Former CPL Champion Dos Santos To Inter Kashi
After spending the last three years in the Canadian Premier League, Cape Verdean international Gianni Dos Santos is embarking on a new chapter.
Atletico Ottawa confirmed the transfer of the 25-year-old forward to I-League side Inter Kashi, who currently rest eighth in India’s second division. The financial details of the transfer were not disclosed by the club.
Dos Santos has arrived to Atletico Ottawa on a two-year deal in February, though he ultimately struggled to find his place in the team: he was deployed on both wings, as a centre-forward and second striker, and even a central midfielder. He tallied 22 appearances across all competitions, departing Ottawa with two goals and two assists for the red-and-white after only getting 206 minutes of game time since July.
A former CPL champion with Pacific FC – where he even teed up the championship-winning goal – Dos Santos was more successful on Canada’s west coast, where he garnered five goals and seven assists over two seasons before his transition eastwards.
The new I-League forward began his career with FC Dordrecht in 2017 before transitioning to Sparta Rotterdam as a youth prospect the following season. Returning to Dordrecht again after that, he was described as a ‘diamond in the rough’ by head coach Harry van den Ham and scored four goals in 17 appearances before Pacific took a chance on the Dutch-Cape Verdean dual national.
“From the entire Atleti family, I would like to thank Gianni for his contributions last season with the team,” added Atletico Ottawa CEO Fernando Lopez, who frees up an international roster spot with the move.
“We wish you all the best in the next chapter of your career.”
