Forge Set To Make ‘Special Announcement’ On Thursday
Canadian Premier League heavyweight Forge FC will hold a special announcement on Thursday, October 1.
While club representatives are keeping the nature of the announcement under wraps, there is a lead candidate for what the significant announcement might be about: club captain Kyle Bekker.

Bekker, 36, will be out for the remainder of the season after sustaining a suspected ACL injury. Amassing 239 appearances since the club’s own debut in 2019, he is Forge’s all-time appearance leader and is a personification of the hard-working, steely nature of Hamilton itself.
Bekker announced a testicular cancer diagnosis that kept him sidelined at the start of the season, though thankfully treatment was successful and he was back on the pitch just one month into the campaign.
With none of his 20 CPL or Canadian Championship appearances this year coming as 90-minute shifts, however, his latest injury raises the question of whether we may be seeing the curtain call for Forge’s talisman.
Should the club captain hang up his boots, it would certainly be a moment in time that warrants a special announcement. Bekker is a cultural cornerstone of the side, and with assistant coach Kyt Selaidopoulos leaving for FC Supra, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Bekker transition to a coaching role within the team.
That is, of course, if tomorrow’s announcement relates to Kyle Bekker’s future. After all, he’s told us numerous times that he’ll keep playing for as long as he can.

While the club’s home ground is in its second straight season without a sponsor, the club announcement is not expected to pertain to stadium naming rights – particularly with the Tiger-Cats and city officials not involved in the announcement.
The announcement will see club representatives joined by invited guests and supporters.
While it’s possible the club is announcing a significant club initiative – other CPL sides have formal Premier Soccer League sides, for instance – we’ll have to wait until Thursday’s afternoon announcement to find out the details.
