AFC Toronto Extends Unbeaten Streak To Three With 1-0 Win Over Halifax Tides FC
Following a two-game homestead at York Lions Stadium, AFC Toronto extended its unbeaten streak to three matches with a 1-0 victory on the road over the Halifax Tides FC at Wanderer Grounds.
AFC Toronto’s unbeaten streak started back on May 1 through the club’s York Lions Stadium debut, where they defeated a visiting Calgary 2-1 to etch the club’s first win into the history books. The unbeaten streak would continue after drawing 1-1 with the Vancouver Rise on May 12.
Thanks to an early goal from Colby Barnett, who notched her first Northern Super League goal in the fifth minute, the streak now extends to three games and a club-first three points retrieved on the road.
The lone goal of the match came from some lovely build up and movement from teammate Nikki Small, who delivered the throw-in ball into the box for Barnett who would slot her first goal.
“Nikki put in the most perfect ball that she could have. In my mind I was just like: ‘do not miss this, do not miss this’,” said Barnett about her goal post-game.
“I was really happy to be on the other side and it definitely feels nice. I get why the strikers like it so much.”
Both sides would push for more, with Halifax looking for the equalizer and Toronto looking to double their lead, yet Barnett’s goal would be the only goal of the match. Esther Okoronkwo almost doubled the lead for the visitors ten minutes into the second half, but would be denied with a goal line clearance from Sara Olai.
AFC Toronto currently sits in third place with two wins, two losses, and one draw after matchweek 5 of the Northern Super League.
“We continue to work and get better. We’re not too concerned with our record at this point – I said that after losses, and I’m saying that after wins, we’re just gonna continue to get better,” said head coach Marko Milanovic.
“As we put more work in, it looks better and better each week.”

AFC Toronto will continue their road trip and face off against familiar side – the currently undefeated Montreal Roses FC at Stade Boreale in Laval on Thursday May 22 at 7 p.m.
The clubs faced each other off in week one for both l their inaugural NSL match, with a crowd of 14,000 seeing the Roses take the 1-0 win.
