Osorio And Laryea Back With TFC Ahead Of Inter Miami Matchup
Toronto FC is back in action after breaking their nine game winless streak on the weekend against the Philadelphia Union at BMO Field, defeating them 2-1 thanks to a some off the bench heroics from man of the match Deandre Kerr.
The Reds now head down to Florida to take on Inter Miami for the first time this 2024 MLS campaign as they push for playoffs with a mere ten games left in the regular season.
Toronto FC are currently placed eighth in Eastern Conference standings with 27 points. It’s a tight spot in the table, with Nashville currently sitting behind TFC at 26 points. Canadian rivals CF Montreal also sit behind TFC with 26 and with a game in hand. If Toronto FC wants to push deep for a playoff position, some points are needed – but it will need to happen against two tough opponents on the road starting with Inter Miami and then on Saturday back north of the border to visit CF Montreal in the clubs’ second meeting this season.
Coach John Herdman will be ecstatic to have his captain Jonathan Osorio back in the lineup and Richie Laryea from Copa America and into the team. The increased depth could prove crucial as TFC looks to balance two games on the road in one week.
Tonight’s opponents Inter Miami CF currently sit second in the Eastern Conference with 47 points on hand but will be without a couple of players. Most notable among them is Lionel Messi, with the Copa America winner ruled out after sustaining anankle injury in the cup final.
Benjamin Cremaschi is away on international duty, gearing up for the Paris Olympics with the United States, while Facundo Farias and Nicolas Freire are ruled out with a injury. Sergio Busquets is also set to miss the game due to getting sent off in the 6-1 loss to Cincinnati on July 6th.
Toronto will be without three players:wingback Tyrese Spicer and midfielders Brandon Servania and Alonso Coello.
Catch the action tonight with kickoff at 7:30PM EST as one teams battles for a playoff berth and another fights for Supporters Shield standings.
